The Garcia Explocat 52, the aluminium exploration catamaran par excellence, whose first unit was launched in July 2020, has been nominated to compete for the 2021 "European Yacht of the Year" award in the Bluewater Cruiser category.
"It is the most important, influential and widely communicated boatbuilding-related award in the world. Often referred to as the 'Oscar' of yachting, it reaches an international audience of millions of sailing enthusiasts, boat owners and industry executives", as stated on the EYOTY committee website.
"Initiated by the German sailing magazine YACHT, it was first presented at boot Düsseldorf in 2004. Today, 12 magazines from all over Europe make up the jury, each of them the leading voice in their respective countries and respected beyond national borders", it is explained on the same website.
The awards team is due to meet and test the nominated boats in La Rochelle in early October. We'll be sure to keep you informed of any further developments.
